Syracuse Arts Academy's 5th Grade Classes created an American History Wax Museum. Each child chose an individual that impacted American History in one way or another. Maddie chose William Clark. I wondered at first if she only chose him because last year she became an expert on Lewis & Clark (remember she wrote a play for her class to perform) but she did a great job digging into who he was & learned a lot about him. For example, did you know William Clark married his first cousin? Or that he had 3 kids? Or that he died of an unknown disease in his oldest son's house? Well now you do!!!
Maddie spent an evening dipping an old atlas in Balsamic Vinegar & then blow drying it to make it look old & faded. It worked, but her display had the funky smell of vinegar. The poor kid in the booth next to her asked me if he smelled like "socks" because he kept smelling something foul. He was relieved when I told him it was the maps & not him. Hahaha!!!
